Remembering Kathy

Kathleen Irene Thomas, 65, died March 9, 2018 in Provo, UT. The second of three children, she was born in Ogden at St. Benedict’s Hospital on January 14, 1953 to Donald Burk and Verniece Sharp Thomas.Kathy grew up in Ogden Utah with her parents and siblings.

Kathy graduated from Ogden/Weber Education Center in 1983. She lived with her family until she was 23, then move to the Utah State Developmental Center where she made friends and learned new things. Kathy moved into the community in 1994. She lived in an apartment with her roommate Jenny, who she called her best friend.

Some of her interests included doing word searches, puzzles, dancing, going shopping, bowling, exercising, helping others and calling staff a “tease cat”. Kathy proudly told everyone she was an artist and singer.

Everyday Kathy worked hard on what she called “changing your ways”. This meant being nice and kind to everyone. She did this in many ways, like when she was out shopping she would buy a gift for her roommate as a surprise.

Kathy’s dream was to become a movie star-singer and sing and dance her way through life! She was a pure soul and was full of love. She will be dearly missed by those who knew her best.

Kathy is survived by her mother, Verniece Thomas, Ogden; brothers, Larry (Shannon) Thomas, Roy and Dennis Thomas, South Weber; and by her four nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald.
